NEW YORK – “Meet my newest girlfriend,” says Aretha Franklin, bringing out Mariah Carey at Tuesday night’s VH1 Divas Live concert.

The duo, who “talked a little girl talk” backstage, according to Franklin, teamed on the R&B classic Chain of Fools in one of the televised program’s more memorable moments.

The charity show, broadcast live from Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre, raised money for VH1’s Save the Music, which promoted music education. Christie Brinkley, Peter Jennings, Donald Trump, Jann Wenner, Joe Piscopo, and Clive Davis were among attendees.

Later, Celine Dion and Carole King paired, with the program’s grand finale uniting Gloria Estefan and Shania Twain with others on (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman.
